You Can Do It
KEY VOCABULARY TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD Initiative, Organisation, Respect, Confidence |
In Term 4 You Can Do It learning, our students will embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, driven by their own self-assessment.
Our students have taken a proactive approach by assessing their own progress in the five Keys of "You Can Do It" and our school's Values. They have candidly identified their strengths and areas where improvement is needed. Moreover, our Junior Student Council (JSC) leaders from each class have actively engaged with their peers through interviews, seeking to understand what the class collectively needs most and the desired learning outcomes.
As a result, in Term 4, our students will focus on the development of several critical skills:
- Initiative: They will learn to apply strategies for seeking support and clarification in their learning journey.
- Organisation: Students will develop the ability to follow multistep instructions to set up for various learning tasks effectively.
- Respect: Our young learners will work on demonstrating skills that contribute positively to group tasks, fostering a respectful and collaborative classroom environment.
- Confidence: Finally, they will be encouraged to articulate their individual needs, further enhancing their self-confidence and self-advocacy skills.
To support your child’s learning at home, you could:
- Encourage Open Communication: Cultivate a home environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their questions, concerns, and achievements. Encourage them to initiate conversations about their schoolwork and feelings. By openly communicating, you'll help them build initiative and confidence in expressing themselves.
- Establish Daily Routines: Set consistent daily routines that include time for homework, chores, and relaxation. Teach your child how to organise their tasks by breaking them into smaller steps. Use visual aids like checklists or calendars to reinforce organisational skills. Consistent routines will support their organisation and initiative.
- Model and Encourage Respect: Demonstrate respectful behaviour at home, such as active listening and valuing others' opinions. Encourage your child to engage in collaborative activities with family members, teaching them the importance of respecting diverse perspectives. By modelling and promoting respect, you'll help them develop these crucial values.
