Mia's TOM Experience - ST NICHOLAS PODCAST EPISODE 3

YEAR 6

Learning:

Year 6 are super excited for the near conclusion of 2023. We have completed many writing texts. Including a persuasive text, an information text and we are in the process of writing a Narrative. In maths we have been preparing for a test that covers all aspects of maths that we will complete on Friday. In science we have been learning about sustainable farming and were fortunate enough to have Mrs Doyle come and talk to us about her farm and their sustainable practices.

Spilt Milk & Peel Valley Dairy:

In week three Year Six were very fortunate to be able to go on an excursion to Peel Valley dairy. At Peel Valley dairy we got to see all the baby calves and were given the opportunity to feed and pat them. We were also taken inside of the factory to where the cows are milked. After this we were given the option to hand milk a cow. Year six loved this experience and would happily do it again.

In week four we were then lucky enough to be taken to Spilt Milk where we were shown how the milk is pasteurised and then put into a mixture to be made into gelato. At Spilt Milk they also showed us inside their kitchen which they call a lab. In the lab we saw the freezer, pasteurizer, mixer and the large dishwasher. They actually sanitise and clean all their machinery after each batch of gelato is made. All classes were very lucky that we could taste the gelato that had been made. The gelato was delicious and a thrilling treat. We would like to thank Mrs Kelly for organising these excursions for us. We would also like to thank Mrs Grady for giving us the opportunity to taste the gelato. Year 6 had a blast. We learnt a lot from both Spilt Milk and Peel Valley dairy, we are very fortunate.

Crazy Sock Day:

Year 6 had lots of impressive Crazy Socks on Crazy Sock Day. We were thrilled to see all the fun and silly socks for our last Crazy Sock Day. Many different styles decorated the classroom. We were proud of the effort and all the time year 6 put into looking their best. We have had a wonderful term so far and can not wait for more learning adventures with the Year 6 team.
