Sports Round-Up
Term 4 Sports Report
By Ms Penni Wallington
This term has been another busy term for the PDHPE department with Sport kicking off for all students in Week 2. For Tuesday Sport the students enjoyed participating weekly in Volleyball/Badminton/Handball, Swimming, Walking, and Indoor Sports.
Sports Awards were distributed each week to students who displayed teamwork, participation, and sportsmanship at sport. Weekly award recipients then went into a draw at the end of each term for a major prize. For Term 4, Edom Hastings (Year 7) and Kyne Allen (Year 10) were the major prize winners.
Week 4 was a busy week of sport which saw four students represent the school at the NSW State Championships of Ten Pin Bowling in Sydney. Wee Waa High School’s team consisted of Isaac Green (Year 10), Charlie Jones (Year 10), Alexi Hannaford (Year 9), Leanne Sylvester (Year 9), with all students achieving personal bests and an overall team score of 783. Thank you to Mr Hogden for his dedication to inclusive sport this year and for all his efforts in organising the many opportunities presented to them. We wish him all the very best for his return to Ballina High in 2024. A big thank you also to Team Manager, Ms Gavan for all her efforts and consistent support in ensuring the smooth running of these activities. Special mention to the generous sponsors: WTC Group, Schwager Civil, WWHS P&C as well as the NSW School Sport Unit, without your support these students would not have had this opportunity.
Millie Collins (Year 10) competed at the NSW CHSSA Championships in Tamworth as a member of the North West team in Week 4. Despite only being new to the sport of water polo, Millie played exceptionally well against strong competition, particularly teams from Sydney. Congratulations Millie.
In Week 9, the SRC conducted a Year 12 Formal Fundraiser, where all students attended Wee Waa Aquatic Centre. Congratulation Year 11 and Mr Vella on a fabulous afternoon where students enjoyed water polo, Monster Island, slushies, hot dogs, touch football, corn hole games and the marquee event, Student v Teachers Monster Island Race to see who was fastest and slipperiest over 12 metres.
Representative Sport opportunities for Term 1, 2024 have been published within this report as well as on our various social media channels. We hope to see many students start the2024 year strong by participating and representing in a variety of sports.
On behalf of the PDHPE staff, we wish to thank the Wee Waa community, parents, and carers on a busy and successful 2023 and wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas.
