Principal's Update

Hi everyone,

Long Weekend (Cup Weekend)

Just a quick reminder that this weekend is a very long weekend for our students. Students are not required on Monday 6th November but we can provide supervision with an Environment Clean Up day if parents let us know – otherwise staff have been and will be completing a number of mandatory training requirements such as anaphylaxis. Wednesday, 8th November is a Student Free day and staff will all be onsite for professional development. Hence, students will be due back Thursday. VCE exams will be continuing as normal.

Staff and Parent Survey Results

It is pleasing to see improvements in the Staff Survey Results (percentage of positive; results are categorised into Positive, Neutral, and Negative):

Slow and steady wins the race and as many of our community know, we are coming off a long period of instability. An important focus (but not the only one this year) has been to improve staff morale; happy staff usually makes for happy students.

Although there is more work to be done, we are starting to see shifts in attitude and culture. Our goal of returning to a safe and orderly environment (and a bright and inviting one) has come a long way this year.

In 2024

I have previously mentioned that in 2024, we will be running the following:

  • A social, emotional literacy program for all year levels (7-12) 1 period a week. We will be using the Resilience Project Program and other valuable resources.
  • Like Ability English and Maths classes at Years 7 and 10. 7 will be new in 2024. Students are grouped in these two subjects only with other students of similar abilities. This allows teachers to better differentiate the learning for specific students.
  • School Wide Positive Behaviours Program – this is a highly researched program which supports schools to develop a positive climate. It rewards and actively teaches pro social behaviours and recognises students regularly for modelling behaviours they have committed to in the Student Matrix.

If you would like anymore information about any of these, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Enjoy Melbourne Cup everyone.
