CLASSES AND STRUCTURES FOR 2024

There is still movement in our 2024 student numbers with families joining the school and some that are leaving over the next few weeks. At this stage we have planned our workforce based on 598 students. We are planning for 26 classes at this stage, with staffing still to be confirmed.

Further details will be shared with our families prior to the end of term in line with DET approved practises.

STAFFING

We are working industriously to finalise our staffing for 2024, using DE recruiting practices.

We will welcome back

Keren Freeman and Kate Lawerson (Learning Specialist) who have been on Family Leave.

Tyahnnne Cogan will continue at CPS in 2024. She is already well known to our school and brings experience and a very good understanding of our school’s context.

Eighteen of our teachers will be trained in the OG approach that supports a consistent methodology in the teaching of reading, writing and spelling in the junior years (Prep – grade 2) that aims to reduce the amount of intervention required in the senior years. It is part of a 4 year plan at CPS.

Alicia Parker and Rebecca Batten will be taking maternity / family leave in 2024.

CLASSES

CPS teachers carefully design grades by considering a holistic view of their students. They assess academic ability through tests, assignments, and observations, ensuring a balanced representation of skills. Simultaneously, they address social and emotional needs by monitoring behaviour, communication, and individual growth. Teachers foster a supportive environment by considering friendship groupings, encouraging collaboration, and fostering positive relationships. This approach promotes a well-rounded education that recognises each child's unique qualities and creates an inclusive atmosphere.

We will be asking our students to identify their five friendship preferences soon. Our students are informed that they will be guaranteed a friend from the list.

This process takes considerable time. Please trust our skilled teachers to place your child/ren in a class that will be their ‘best fit’.

PREP ORIENTATION

We were excited to welcome our 2024 prep students to their first orientation session on Wednesday afternoon. The new preps will spend the first two Wednesdays visiting the prep classrooms. The following two Wednesdays will be spent in our specialist classrooms. Our year 5 students will be assisting with the orientation program each week, in preparation for their move to year 6, next year.
