Gymnastics Superstars at Park Ridge
Over the last fortnight, the Victorian Gymnastics Championships have taken place and there were a few Park Ridge students who took part. Well done to the following students on an outstanding achievement. Competing at a state level is something you should be very proud of.
Mitchell L – State Champion! Mitch came 1st in Rings, Parallel Bars, High Bar, Pommel and Floor to be crowned overall champion in his division.
Zach P – 9th overall in Victoria, including 3rd place on High Bar and 5th place on Pommel
Jacinta L – 6th overall in her division, and 3rd place on Beam
Division Tennis
Last Friday was the Knox Division Hot Shots Tennis Championships. Park Ridge had both our Girls and Boys teams qualify after finishing in 1st and 2nd place at District last term. Both teams have been training hard at lunch times in preparation for the day. Our boys team ended up finishing in 4th place, with 2 wins and 2 losses, and our girls were crowned Champions of Knox winning the grand final 10-2. Our girls now progress through to regionals on November 13. Great job to both teams and I’d like to thank Rima, Hyra and Kylie for assisting with transportation on the day and Pauline for coaching.
Victorian All Schools Athletics Championships
Last weekend was Victorian All Schools Athletics Championships at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. “All Schools” offers secondary aged students (age U14-U20) the opportunity to compete for the chance of representing Victoria at the National All Schools Athletics Championships, all whilst representing their school. Year 6 student Ava C, although an Under 12 age athlete, qualified to compete in the under 14 400m. Ava ran a great heat finishing in 3rd place, and ended up with the 15th fastest time out of 26 entries. An outstanding achievement to not only compete at a state level, but to also be the youngest in the race and perform so well. Great job, Ava!
