Principal's Message

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

This week we had our Year 1s head off for an extended day trip to Warrnambool, the Year 2s on an overnight stay in Port Fairy and our Year 3/4 students at Grampians Retreat for two nights. The weather for each of these events was perfect and the feedback from staff was that everyone had a wonderful time. I extend my gratitude to the staff for the work they put in leading into camp to ensure everything went smoothly. I also thank them for the care and support they provided whilst on camp to make sure everyone had fun. This thanks is also extended to our educational support staff and parents who formed part of the team attending.  I am sure there are many tired little people tonight who are looking forward to a restful weekend.

Today at school we took our hats off to teachers for World Teacher Day.  Across the school students were encouraged to acknowledge the effort, kindness and dedication of a teacher or support staff member. It was lovely to hear the words of appreciation that were extended by our students to staff for the things they do to ensure they are not only the best learners but also the best version of themselves. Our staffs professional manner, commitment to high quality teaching, clear expectations and individualised support reflect our school motto of  “ever upwards, always our best”.

This week we sadly said goodbye to our educational support staff member, Sophie Claffey. Sophie has been a terrific part of our Year 1/2  team up the hill since the start of the year, working to support students in developing their foundational learning skills.  We have been very lucky to have someone with Sophie’s positivity, gentleness and vibrancy work with us.  Next week we welcome Leila Elton to our team as Sophie’s replacement for the remainder of the year.

As the warmer weather commences and the days become longer it is lovely to see families stopping and using the school playground at the end of the day. We remind parents that it is their responsibility to supervise their child after 3:30pm as our staff are responsible for supervising the pick up zones. As such we ask parents to collect their child first so they are not left unsupervised in the playground.

Lastly I remind parents the importance of not parking in the pick up zone. We understand that there is limited parking around the school and the pick up zones provide a space where parents can collect their child with ease, as long as the process works. This does mean that if a space is not available parents are required to drive around the block and come back again.  This also requires us to be patient and kind to each other, great values to model to our children and ones that reflect our school values of Respect.
