Grade 5 STEM- Earth and Space Sciences
This term in STEM, Year 5 students are learning about Earth and Space Sciences. After gaining insights into NASA’s role in space exploration, students reviewed the characteristics of various components of the solar system. Students will be further exploring each planet, focusing on the orbital period, composition, temperature, diameter, distance from the sun, number of moons and the length of a day.
In week 3, students used their Science inquiry skills to build a rocket launcher. They enjoyed participating in this hands-on activity while working in groups. Students practiced critical thinking, problem-solving and communicated their findings with the class. Additionally, they critically evaluated their rocket’s design and provided innovative suggestions to improve the rocket’s flight and functionality.
