Principal's Report

We are well underway in our final term of the 2024 school year and we expect to finish our year strong. In what is a busy term of learning, activities and events; our community draws upon our four college values - Learn, Resilient, Respect and Responsible - to ensure that we continue to believe, achieve and succeed. None more so than resilience!

Resilience, not IQ or talent, is one of the prime indicators of achievement. Bouncing back, persevering, seeking support, problem solving are all part of the way we learn and succeed at Truganina and our college community celebrates this.

On Wednesday the 6th of November, our college is celebrating our first ever Values Day.

On this day students will be celebrating and learning about RESILIENCE.

Students will have the opportunity to win prizes for demonstrating resilience and participating in learning experiences designed by our teachers and student leaders. Students are encouraged to wear a pop of RED with their full school uniform to celebrate resilience.

Resilient Youth Australia, outlines three main ways we can increase the resilience of our young people:

  1. Social and emotional learning
  2. Student voice
  3. Improving the quality of connections and friendships

While much of this is already core-business in the classrooms at Truganina (through the Resilience Project lessons, the work of our student leaders and our wellbeing teams) our Student Empowerment team have taken this a step further.

Recess and Lunchtime Clubs launched on Monday this week and engaged over 200 students across Years 4-7 on its opening day. By participating in these clubs students have the opportunity to create connections and friendships across a range of interests (from yoga and dance, to Minecraft and origami). These experiences fill up our resilience reserves and in Term 4 we typically need it. I want to acknowledge our teachers who have invested their time and passion into running these clubs and to Mr. Skipworth and Hannah Tooze for making this initiative possible.

Our Staff at Truganina show tremendous dedication and model resilience to our students each and every day. We will continue to show up and pick each other up in what looks to be a hugely exciting and successful finish to our year.
