Developing Leadership Through the Arts
Term 4 is a time when our Year 6 students are beginning to reflect on their primary school years and consider life beyond its walls.
Are they prepared, ready to confidently face the challenges ahead?
I feel our Visual Arts Program here at FPS is not just an arts program, but it also provides leadership experiences for our senior students, allowing them to gain self-assurance and pride in themselves.
Our Year 6 students have the opportunity to be part of our Visual Art Committee where they assist by:
- Contributing to the design of the Journal’s title page.
- Preparing the years’ folios.
- Helping with room clean and set up.
- Assisting with Catch Up Art at lunchtime.
- Setting up the Staff Christmas Luncheon.
- Judging the ART FOR ALL artwork to award two framing vouchers.
Additionally, they can be part of ART FOR ALL, providing service for the food preparation and distribution at the Gala Evening.
Our Year 6 students also traditionally create an artwork for the school as an appreciation of their time at FPS. You may notice some past art pieces – the murals, the painted rocks, the felt ball mobiles and splashback tiles in the Art Studio, the totem poles – all made with thanks from past Grade 6 students. Our 2024 sixes will be completing their farewell gift soon.
All these undertakings require our students to show responsibility, accountability and teamwork… qualities that can only benefit them for their future years.
