Foundation Spotlight

So Proud!

We can’t believe that the Foundation students are in their final term of 2024! To say we are proud of them is an understatement. They have made new friends, learnt to read, write, count, and have become more and more independent as the year has progressed!

Reading

Students have been doing a great job at revising their digraphs from term three, like /wh/ - where are the whales. We’ve been continuing to practise reading fluently to our partners every day, so do your best to read your home reader at night. This is a great way to build confidence and revise new 'heart words' and sound.

  • I like learning about the /i/ sound because its my name letter. ~ Isla, FC
  • I like playing literacy games because they are fun! ~ Roy, FC

Writing

In writing ‘just right’ porridge has been eaten, wolves have huffed and puffed, and forests have been explored.

Students have been exploring fairy tales and have rewritten the endings of three fairy tales while adding their own changes to the stories. Foundation students are very excited to begin writing their own original fairy tales this week.

Maths

This term the students have continued to build upon their numbers sense by exploring subtraction. We’ve learnt that minus, takeaway and subtract all mean the same thing. The students have explored telling subtraction stories to each other and have been using mini whiteboards to show their thinking.

For example, Jayde baked 12 cookies and then ate 5 of them. How many cookies were leftover?

Below are some photos of the great work of Foundation students have been doing!
