Big Summer Read

The Big Summer Read is taking place at the Greater Hamilton Library these summer holidays!  

Research shows that children who stop reading over the long school break experience a loss of literacy skills. This is known as the ‘Summer Slide’. 

The Big Summer Read aims to arrest the ‘Summer Slide’ by engaging children and their families in a fun and dynamic campaign through their public library.  By using a competitive element and offering great prizes, there is added incentive for participation. Prizes include a $500 voucher from Harvey Norman, $300 voucher from Daktari and a family pass to the Halls Gap Zoo, just to name a few. This is a state-wide campaign, available whether children are at home or on holidays elsewhere in Victoria.  The Big Summer Read runs from 1 December 2024 until 31 January 2025.  We will forward any information we receive at a later date.
