Loddon Mallee Region Athletics Championships

Congratulations to all of our students who represented the school at the Loddon Mallee Regional Athletics on Monday. This competition was very strong and featured the best athletes from Central and Northern Victoria.

In what is an outstanding result for our school, all of our athletes finished at least 4th in their respective events and 4 students have now progressed to the State Athletics final at the Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne on the 6th of November.

Jed H not only won the 10 Years Boys High Jump, he also broke the long-standing LM Region record. Awesome effort Jed! Max H and Archie C also performed brilliantly in the respective individual events. Max won the 10 Years Boys 200m, whilst Archie came 2nd in the 12 Years Boys Hurdles. All 3 boys will progress to the State Championships in these events.

Emma A also run superbly to come 2nd in the 12 Years Girls 100m. This is the third year in a row that Emma will represent the school at State level. Outstanding achievement Emma!

Our 12 Years Boys 4 x 100m Relay team ran brilliantly to finish 3rd overall. Although they narrowly missed out on qualifying for the State Championships, a podium finish at a Regional Championships is a fantastic achievement and they should be very proud of their achievements. This team included, Archie C, Bennett K, Hadley G and Charlie K.

In other results, Delainey G and Max H finished 4th in their respective 100m races, and our 10 Years Girls 4 x 100m Relay team also finished 4th. This team included Delainey G, Olivia P, Hannah J and Isabella J.

I would like to congratulate all of these students on their achievements, and for the way they conducted themselves throughout the day. I would also like to thank Mr Greer for his assistance with supervising/organising the students on the day.

Auslan News

Welcome to Term 4 of Auslan!

Hopefully your child/ren were able to teach you a little about National Week of Deaf People at the end of last term which was celebrated during the school holidays from 23rd – 29th September!

It has been nice hearing from some students who noticed things in the community or had stories to share about the different ways they recognised this celebration, which celebrates Deaf communities, their language, culture, history and achievements. I hear some students were lucky enough to see the 2 Bendigo buildings lit up in BLUE (the colour of sign languages!) on the 23rd September for International Day of Sign Languages!!

We started this term with some revision in all classes. Students were able to choose what signs they wanted to practise from our previous topics through different Auslan games and Auslan websites.

This week all classes have started their new topics.

Grades P-4 are all focusing on Handshapes used in Auslan signs this week. Students have been playing Memory and Matching games with Handshape Pictures & Name cards.

Grade 3-4s have had a go at Scattergories, drawing on topics previously learned to come up with a list of signs we know that use certain Handshapes we are practising.

Grade 5-6s have begun learning some signs for the ARTS, in particular Performing Arts signs this week, including: Music, Dance, Dancer, Sing, Drama/Show/Theatre, Clown, Puppet, Funny, Laugh, Dress Up, Ballet, Drums, Guitar, Piano, Flute, and Band.

The Big Sing Excursion

This Wednesday, the SGPS Choir travelled to Bendigo South East Secondary College to participate in The Big Sing. We were one of five primary schools invited to attend the event, which included performances and singing activities with BSE's ACA program.

It was wonderful to see such a high standard of musicianship on display as we watched the BSE stage band perform, followed by a variety of different singing ensembles.

The highlight of the day was participating in the "massed item" rehearsal and concert. Each school was provided with the same song to practice in the months leading up to the event: "Try Everything" by Shakira. Then, all schools came together on stage to perform as one giant ensemble! It was so thrilling to be on stage performing with over 100 other students.
