Looking Ahead - Weeks 5 and 6

As we enter the heart of the term, Weeks 5 and 6 promise to be packed with learning, creativity, and fun activities! Our teachers have been busy gathering insights on your child’s learning progress, preparing for the upcoming reports. It’s such an exciting time to celebrate all the new skills and knowledge they’re gaining!

In Week 5, we’ll have a Cold Write assessment. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their writing skills independently, giving teachers a clear view of their current abilities and areas for growth. We’re excited to see their creativity and development shine!

In Week 6, we’re thrilled to introduce our Dance Curriculum Incursion. This unique experience will allow our young learners to explore rhythm, movement, and expression. Dancing is not only fun but also supports coordination and confidence, and we can’t wait to see their joyful moves on the dance floor!

Save the date! Our annual Colour Fun Run will be held on Friday, 15th November, at 1:30 pm. This vibrant event is one of the year’s highlights, as students dash through clouds of colour with their friends and teachers. It’s a wonderful chance to celebrate fitness, friendship, and fun. We encourage families to join in, cheer the little ones on, and celebrate together!

Numeracy

In weeks5 and 6, our Prep students will explore skip counting by 2’s and 5’s, alongside foundational addition and subtraction. Through engaging games and stories, they’ll begin to recognise counting patterns, practising by grouping objects into sets of 2 and 5.

Addition and subtraction will come to life with hands-on activities, using real-world

scenarios and practical objects to help students visualise and solve problems. This approach brings maths to life, making learning both fun and meaningful, and helping to build their confidence in numeracy.

Literacy

Our Prep students will be building their writing skills by learning a new Heart Word: who. We’ll also review the “FLOSS” spelling rule. The floss rule is a spelling rule states that when a one-s

yllable word ends in the letters f, l, s, or z, and is preceded by a short vowel, the final letter should be doubled. Additionally, we’ll revisit the “all” spelling pattern, as in ball, to strengthen their understanding of consistent word patterns.

As part of our writing programme, students will explore procedural texts, learning to write simple instructions in a clear and organised way. These activities make writing fun and practical, helping students grow in confidence and skill!

As always, we love seeing your children’s enthusiasm and growth each day—it’s a joy to be part of such a special school community! Wishing you all a wonderful fortnight filled with learning, laughter, and fun.

Warm regards,

Alex, Rhiannon, Isabella, and Kate
