Dear parents and guardians,

We can't believe that it's already the end of week 4. We have commenced revision and assessments, as well as continuing to consolidate the student's skills and understandings.

For the next three weeks we will begin our assessment process, it is essential that your child brings a charged laptop to school every day.

Scrapbooking

Towards the end of this term, the students will embark on their Primary Years Scrapbook. They will write a short piece about each year of their schooling, and they will include school photographs from each year. Students can create an album, a scrapbook or a digital album. Please sort through your albums with your child and print photos that they can bring to school. Albums and scrapbooks can be purchased at Officeworks, Big W and other department stores.

Graduation & Graduation PowerPoint

Graduation is Wednesday 11th of December. Students will come to school for activities in the morning, then go home to get changed and come back at 5:15pm for photos and the ceremony. On the night we show a PowerPoint of the children through their school years.  Stay tuned for family homework to create your PowerPoint at home next term.

Literacy

This fortnight we have studied the mentor text, The Boy Who Loved Words.  As you can imagine, this narrative text contained many new and amazing words. We also studied the origin of English words and complex sentence structures. This week the students completed a Cold Write - Narrative. Next week they will undertake a Cold Write - Persuasive.

Maths

This week in Math, we’ve been having a blast with transformations! Our students have been diving into the fascinating world of transformations by exploring how shapes can translate, rotate, reflect, and even enlarge or dilate—all while using concrete materials that bring these concepts to life.

The students' also discovered the art of tessellations, finding patterns all around us, from tiled floors to honeycomb structures! Using Microsoft Word and other software, they created their own unique tessellated designs—check out some of their amazing work below!

Next week, the students will be revising the topics that have been taught thus far. Students can continue their revision at home completing allocated learning tasks on Mathletics. We strongly encourage students to start to learn their times tables by heart, as this improves their automaticity in mathematics.

Inquiry

This term our Inquiry unit focusses on democracy, citizenship, government and voting. As part of this work, the students will campaign for a cause. The cause might be a social justice issue, an environmental matter or something different. After researching and campaigning, all students will vote towards their preferred choice. This project aims to activate student voice and student agency, alongside their understanding of what it means to be an Australian citizen. The winning campaign will be funded by Market Day profits and form part of the Class of 2024 legacy. We look forward to learning what matters most to our students.

Buddies

Our awesome Buddy Captains have planned some exciting activities for our fortnightly catch ups. This week we made a Halloween poster.

Tomorrow's Leaders for Sustainability

A group of 21 students travelled by public transport to Elsternwick Park, to look at the regeneration of the water ways and park land. This event gave the students ideas for their project - to build a native habitat behind the Their Care building.

Homework

If you would like your child to complete work at home, you can complete the following:

Reading - it is important that students read for 20 minutes, most nights.

Maths - Students are encouraged to complete the Problem of the Week in this newsletter or go to the Problem-Solving folder on Teams. Additionally, students can complete Mathletics learning tasks. There are also a range of other amazing maths websites, such as Topmarks, K5 learning and Mathsframes.

We look forward to celebrating the end of your child's primary schoo
