Connect: Year 4
Dear Grade Four families,
Welcome to our camp edition of Connect!
It was a pleasure to take the Grade Fours on their very first school camp to Phillip Island Adventure Resort. They formed new friendships, demonstrated resilience, and took on responsibility, making us proud. A massive thank you to our parent helpers, April, Dana, Karen, and Stella.
Day One
After an exciting bus trip, we arrived at San Remo for lunch and pelican feeding. We were greeted by nearly 20 pelicans, but the wait for the ranger to arrive and feed them tested our patience (first camp hurdle—well done, Grade Fours!). After discovering that the ranger was unwell and the feeding wouldn’t happen, we headed to camp. We weren't sure who was more disappointed about the ranger's absence—the students or the pelicans.
Our arrival at camp was filled with excitement as students discovered their sleeping buddies and prepared for their first round of activities.
We ended our first day with a night walk, using the Habit of Mind, Gathering Data Through All Senses, to discover the sounds of the bush at night.
Day Two
Some were up bright and early, ready to start the day, while others needed a bit of encouragement from their peers after a busy first day. We enjoyed a full day of activities—four rotations, in fact—with plenty of food breaks to keep us fuelled. The weather was kind to us, holding off any rain until we’d finished all our activities.
The night ended with popcorn and a movie. After such a busy day, some students fell asleep during the movie and needed a gentle nudge when bedtime arrived.
Day Three
Our last day arrived quickly and was met with mixed emotions—excitement about going home and sadness about leaving camp. Before breakfast, we packed and vacated the cabins, ready for the cleaners. This wasn’t an easy task, but well done, Grade Fours! After fueling up for the day ahead, we set out for our final two activities. Though the rain joined us, it didn’t stop us from enjoying our last hours at camp. Many of us needed a change of clothes before boarding the bus, so thank you to the bus driver for not packing too early.
With the rain settling in, we decided to stay at camp for our delicious salad rolls and then head back to school a little earlier to greet our very excited families.
We enjoyed all the wild life visits throughout our stay at Phillip Island Adventure Resort
Lastly, WELL DONE, Mr Salter!
