Connect: Year 3
Welcome to this fortnights Connect! I can't believe that next week is Week 5! We are well into the term and about to start some assessment leading into our reporting for Semester Two. As the term goes on, the calendar will get busy, so please check upcoming dates.
What's coming up this fortnight?
Date | Event |
---|---|
Tuesday 5th November | Melbourne Cup Day - Public Holiday |
Friday 8th November | Library Open Morning |
Friday 15th November | SRC Free Dress Day |
Friday 22nd November | Curriculum Day - student free day |
Did you know that the Library is hosting open mornings on a Friday each week? Children need to be accompanied by an adult. This is a perfect time to connect with your child browsing their favourite books, reading and even borrowing to take books home!
What's happening in the classrooms?
Literacy:
We have continued on our journey exploring poetry this fortnight! The students have loved looking at cinquain, colour and rhyming poetry while also using different poetic devices in their own attempts at writing them! We will finish this unit up before beginning our assessment period. We look forward to sharing more of our fabulous work in the next connect issue!
Numeracy:
This fortnight we have worked hard on understanding the concept of fractions. The students have learned that a fraction is an equal part of a whole. They have also used a variety of resources to help them. We have used playdough, paper circles and squares, looking for fractions in our environment and even drawing on the table. The students have learned the difference between a 'numerator' and 'denominator' - even when they're tricky words to say!
Inquiry:
The students have been immersed into a time approximately 300 years ago! They have been learning about why convicts were sent to Australia and who by. For the next few weeks we are going to be looking at the culture of First People's and their perspectives, along looking at some examples of european and indigenous artefacts. Check out this link below which gives us an insight into First Australians!
Wellbeing:
We continue to look at how we can treat each other fairly and with kindness, including the fact that we need to respect others, their interests and likes! We have been looking at scenarios and asking the children how they would handle these situations and what to do as a bystander when these things do happen.
Grandparents & Special Persons Morning
What a special time it was on Tuesday when we had our grandparents and special visitors in our classrooms and in Kitchen Garden! We would like to extend a very big thank you to those who were able to come in and we hope those of you that were in the garden had some fun as our 3A students showed off their culinary skills!
Need our emails again? Here they are! Please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
