Connect: Year 2

 What a busy start to Term 4 we have had! It was a pleasure to have all of the grandparents and special people come to visit us. We loved seeing you all creating gorgeous memory bags, laughing and sharing stories.

Key Dates

REMINDERS 

• Now that the sun has come back to join us, please ensure that your child has a named hat. ALL students are expected to wear a hat during playtimes. 
• Please send in your child's reading satchel every day. Students MUST keep their take home readers and library books in their satchels to ensure they are protected. We will not be sending home readers without satchels.
• We go to Library on Mondays so please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home.
• Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed. 
• Please be mindful that mornings are a time filled with lesson prepping, staff collaboration and preparation for the day. We are always happy to schedule meetings with parents and guardians on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, alternatively feel free to email us with any questions, comments or concerns. 

Upcoming Learning 

Literacy

Over the next two weeks we will be continuing to work on Stage 7.4, focusing on 'ing' where we double the final letters and drop 'e', 'mb' as in climb, and 'wr' as in write. Then it will be time for us to revise and review our 7.4 work! 

We will also be continuing to work on information reports. Students will be using a range of media to research a prehistoric creature that they will create their own informative report on. We will be learning how to take effective notes and turn our informative notes into paragraphs. 

Numeracy 

Over the next two weeks we will be continuing to investigate equal groupings with a focus on fractions of collections. Students will be exploring halves, quarters, and eighths using the set model. 

Students have been loving playing a variety of maths games at school, here is one you can play at home.

This term we are exploring the unit 'Through Generations.’ Students will use their knowledge of the lives of people in the past to participate in conversations with their parents and grandparents. They will pose interesting questions and think of follow-up questions. Students will use language to describe events in the past, present and future and provide reasons for their conclusions. They will develop an interest in different ways that people tell stories and an appreciation of the importance of place to different cultures. 

Wellbeing

We will continue to explore our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum this term, as well as focusing on regulating emotions and ensuring we are 'ready to learn,' or at least moving towards being in that headspace. The Grade Two students have done a wonderful job identifying their readiness to learn and in using their 'Ready to Learn Plans' to manage their emotions and learning.
