LITERACY
Our phonics focus this week has been 'ee', 'ea' and 'y'. We are working on homophones such as 'sea/see' and 'bean/been'. Students have been responding to the mentor text Mad Magpie. We have looked at how the illustrations impact how we feel about the story.
In writing we are building stamina and writing longer pieces of work. We have been naming the 4 sentence types - command, statement, question and exclamation and using the appropriate punctuation.
NUMERACY
We have been exploring capacity and measuring items in the classroom. It would be fun for your child to play with containers and see which holds the most water.
INQUIRY
This term our inquiry topic is Sources of Light and Sound. Students have been investigating body percussion sounds such as clapping, clicking and stomping. They created their own patterns of sound. Next week they will learn the habit of mind, 'remaining open to continuous learning'.
WELLBEING
During wellbeing students have been learning to celebrate our similarities and differences and were discussing if there are girls and boys toys. Are dolls just for girls? Are dinosaurs for boys? This led to some interesting conversation and in the end, we agreed all toys are for everyone.
We loved having so many visitors for or open morning. The students loved working with their special someone.
Thanks and have a great weekend,
Shanae, Michelle, Julieanne and Fiona.
