SLAM Series

Mrs Kiara Duvall

On Monday, 21st October, a group of 37 students travelled to Bendat Stadium for the Fuel To Go & Play BWA School Slam tournament. Seven schools and 29 teams participated, with Burrendah represented by four teams of Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 students. The day began early, with students arriving at 7am and the bus departing at 7:30am. We were the first school to arrive, and our students immediately began warming up and organising themselves.

The sportsmanship displayed by our students throughout the day was remarkable. They not only cheered for Burrendah teams but also encouraged other schools and players. They were quick to high-five opponents, help players up from the court, and shake hands after matches. Their basketball skills were impressive, showcasing their ability to drive down the court and make fantastic shots. We even had some students who had never played before, and they showed significant improvement over the course of the day.

The Year 5/6 girls made it to the grand final, finishing in 2nd place out of 10 teams. The Year 5/6 boys secured 3rd place out of 11 teams. The Year 3/4 boys also reached the grand final, earning 2nd place out of 8 teams, while the Year 3/4 girls finished 3rd out of 5 teams. These are fantastic accomplishments for our teams, and most importantly, everyone had a great time!

A special thank you goes to Jo Lee for her outstanding organisation and coordination of the event with Mrs Bain our amazing sports teacher. We also extend our gratitude to parent coaches Lauren Day, Tim Newey, Matty Knight, and Sherelle Knight, who dedicated so much time to coaching our students. It was wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents there to cheer on and support our Burrendah teams.
