Catholic Identity

Year of Prayer

In preparation for the Jubilee next year Pope Francis has declared this year as the ‘Year of Prayer’. Prayer is an integral part of who we are as Catholic School Communities. Opportunities for prayer allow all to encounter and build their relationship with God.

'Hail Mary full of Grace’

During the month of the Holy Rosary and throughout the year, Year 1 students have been learning to pray the Hail Mary.

Whole School Fundraiser - Friday 8 November TOMORROW

The Theme for Catholic Mission Month is ‘Go and Invite Everyone to the Banquet’. This term students have been learning about issues of mission and justice in Religious Education lessons. Students will be empowered to contribute to God’s mission in the world by supporting the work of ‘Catholic Mission’ through prayer, advocacy, and action.

During Catholic Mission Month (October) SJB school community have been working together to ‘Sockit to Poverty’. This Friday 8 November students are invited to wear crazy socks to school with their school uniform and donate gold coins to Catholic Mission. On this day students will participate in ‘Kicking Goals for Good’ soccer activities. Thank you for your support of Catholic Mission 2024!

Year 2- First Penance

Thank you again to the teachers and parents who prepared the Year 2 students so well for the sacrament of Penance. Seeing so many parents and grandparents present at this Sacrament to support the students was lovely. You are always most welcome!  Special thanks to Fr Patrick, who guided the students in this process.

Does Pope Francis go to Penance? Most certainly! Pope Francis is just like us, and no one is perfect. It is humbling to know that everyone makes mistakes. Here is an image of Pope Francis on 28 March 2014, from CatholicNewsAgency.com.

Remembrance Day

Next Monday 11 November 2024, the school community will gather (10:50am in the school hall) to commemorate and remember all those who lost their lives for our freedom. All are welcome!

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice on 11 November 1918 to signal the end of World War One. At 11 am on the 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous war. Remembrance Day is a special day set aside to remember those men and women who lost their lives during the two World Wars and other conflicts.

At St Joseph’s Catholic School, we wear poppies made by an extraordinary volunteer and grandparent in our school community. The red poppy has special significance for Australians as they were among the first to flower in the devastated battlefields in the First World War. Australians wear a red poppy on Remembrance Day for three reasons:

  • In memory of those who died in Flanders Fields
  • To remember the reason for why those soldiers died
  • As a sign of respect between the soldiers of all Allied nations.

Year 1 & Year 6 Parish Mass

On Friday 15 November at 9:30am, Year 1 students and their Year 6 buddies have been invited to attend Parish Mass. This is an important element in continuing our Parish, School and Family partnerships. Parents are most welcome to attend this Mass.
