Last fortnight I wrote about hope and the importance of community. This week we are giving an opportunity for each of us to consider offering some hope to those in need in our community over Christmas. The annual BPS Christmas Food and Gift Drive is back. I know that it may feel too early to think about gift giving, however, our partners in this event; One Church who distribute the food and gifts require time to organise and distribute everything.
I am so aware of the financial pressures on all of us as parents and carers and the stress that can occur at this time of the year. So many people including some in our BPS community benefit from the support of the Food Pantry at One Church to help provide for them and their families. Carly Cassidy who runs the Food Pantry across the road, was also as many of you know our previous BPS Chaplain/Wellbeing Co-ordinator prior to me starting. Carly has told me many accounts of people struggling to buy food, pay bills, etc.
This year the food drive is the focus, followed by the gifts. For those of you who have the means, even if it's one small item, that would be greatly appreciated. Non-perishable Christmas food items would be great, or just regular non-perishable food items are also fantastic. Christmas gifts will also be gratefully received. The details about completing the tag with gender and age are written on the back of the flyer sent home with the oldest child in the family. There are more tags at the school office.
Thank you all so much for your generosity and helping to make a difference to someone in the local community. For those who are struggling financially or the stress of everything is too much, please feel free to reach out to me at school or my email is lisa.osborne@education.vic.gov.au
Kind Regards, Lisa :)
