On August 11th, Lucas Primary School was proud to take Charlotte (5/6C), Niharica (5/6B) and Ellen (5/6A) to the Japanese speech contest in Melbourne. Students need to memorise a set speech (all students have to do) and their personal speech. All students chose to talk about their favourite animals and spend every recess to practise them as well as at home. Thank you very much to the parents for supporting their child, it was a great competition, and I am very proud of their achievement!
In Term 4, Year 1-4 students are learning about weather in Japanese. Students were introduced to the weather song and sing it at the start of every lesson as a warmup.

Year 5 and 6 students just finished two assignments about houses in Japanese. They created a poster of their imaginative house and created and recorded their speech in Japanese.
On the 28th October, 5/6C, 5/6D and 3/4D classes and some 5/6A and B students participated in the first Zoom meeting with Kawanaka Nishi Primary School in Japan. Students only spoke in English and the teachers translated to support. Lucas students introduced themselves in Japanese and asked a question about what colour Japanese students liked. The Japanese students answered the question in English. The Japanese students introduced themselves in English and they asked a question about us. All students were very happy to come to the front and answer their question in Japanese. Japanese students introduced their local community to us and gave us a quiz.
In November, Year 5 and 6 students will create the greeting card in Japanese as a final assignment for this year. Students who wish to exchange their greeting card with Kawanaka Nishi Primary School students will send their card to Japan and they expect to receive one from their partner in late December.
