Work Experience - Student Reflections

Last week, I did two days of work experience at a farm in Moriarty. Throughout the two days I fed and rugged horses, harrowed the arena, pressure cleaned, mucked out paddocks, and mowed lawns. Overall it was a good hands on experience that I would recommend to others. - Remy B.

Last week I attended work experience down at the upcoming new Devonport Recreation Centre, working for Fairbrother Construction. During the week, I was shown many new skills such as tying steel cages ready for the building's concrete foundation. I reckon I tied around eight of these cages. We also boxed up some boards ready for concrete to go in them along with fixing some other boxes that were out of whack. After that, we put in black plastic, like what you would put under a garden for weeds, then some steel mesh and cut it all to size, then putting plastic stands to hold it up called chairs. Over all, it was a fantastic week of learning new skills, bonding with real life workers in their environment of workplace, and seeing how builds start off before the site becomes busy. - Armi S.

High School Triathlon

Last Thursday, we had 21 students head down to the Bluff to participate in the Devonport Schools Triathlon Challenge. It was a cracking day of weather as students swam, cycled, and ran. Although the results were not officially recorded on the day, all our individual and team competitors ended up in the top 20 for their group. Well done to all students who competed and we look forward to seeing you all compete again in 2026.

NW Inter High Athletics Carnival

This week, we had the NW Inter High Athletics Carnival at the Penguin Athletics Complex. We were blessed with a great day of weather, as the DCS team had 21 students compete in various track and field events. A big congratulations to those students who won their events. As a school, we ended up finishing second in the overall school rankings, with our female students winning their team scores, and the male students coming in at third. Well done to all students who displayed a great attitude throughout the day and represented our school incredibly well. We look forward to competing again next year and trying to win the division.
