Year 3

Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

We can’t believe it’s already the end of the year! Our Grade 3 students have finished the term with so much energy and pride in their learning, including a wonderful performance of We Three Kings at the Christmas Carols. They have grown in confidence, worked hard, and enjoyed celebrating their achievements together. As the holidays begin, we wish all families a blessed Christmas and a happy, safe New Year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back, ready for an exciting start to Year 4 on the 2nd of February.

This Week's Learning

Religious Education

This week, our Year Three students continued exploring how the Christmas story celebrates new life, peace, and joy, and how we can share these gifts with others. A highlight was their beautiful performance of We Three Kings at our Carols Night. Students reflected on the message of the song and how it connects to the story of Jesus’ birth, discussing simple ways they can spread peace and joy in their own lives and our school community.

Integrated Learning

This week in Integrated Studies, students worked on sharing the research they have been gathering about their chosen animal or insect. Our learning focus was on presenting information clearly and confidently to the class. Each student selected an interesting fact they had discovered and practised explaining it in their own words. This helped them build confidence in speaking, while also learning from one another as they listened to a wide range of animal and insect facts.

English

This week in Reading, students focused on building their fluency by practising how to read accurately, at a steady pace, and with clear expression. They completed a three-minute partnered reading activity, where they read the same text aloud together to develop confidence and smooth phrasing. Students then worked with a set of vocabulary words from the text, writing their own sentences to show they understood each meaning. They finished the session by proofreading and editing their sentences to ensure they were clear, correctly punctuated, and made sense.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students practised creating their own multiplication word problems using two numbers generated by rolling a ten-sided dice twice. After recording their numbers, they worked on turning them into real-life situations, such as groups of items, sets of equal amounts, or repeated events. This activity helped students strengthen their understanding of multiplication as equal groups while building confidence in writing their own maths problems.

Social & Emotional Learning:

This week in SEL, we are learning to use our manners to show kindness, respect, and care for others. Students have been practising using polite words, showing respectful actions, and making sure everyone feels safe and included. We have also talked about why manners matter and how small choices—like saying “please,” “thank you,” and using a calm tone—help build a positive and welcoming classroom community.

Auslan

This week in AUSLAN, students have been revising all the skills and vocabulary they’ve learned throughout the year by taking part in a range of interactive games. These activities helped them strengthen their signing accuracy, practise conversations, and enjoy celebrating how much their confidence has grown.
