Year 2

Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Families,

What a wonderful year we’ve had in Grade 2! The time has flown by because we have spent it learning, laughing, and enjoying our days together. Students have grown so much in their confidence, skills, and friendships, and it has been a joy to see them challenge themselves and celebrate their achievements. As we look ahead, the class is excited and well-prepared for the new adventures that Grade 3 will bring. Thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year — it truly makes a difference. We are very proud of the amazing learners your children have become!

Friendly Reminder:  Please check lost property for any missing clothing or items.

Christmas Carols: Well done Grade Two being putting on an amazing performance of 'Mary's Boy Child'. The Grade Two teachers were so proud!

This week we learnt about:

Religious Education: This week we are continuing our learning about Advent, with a focus on the Candle of love and what love we find  in our daily lives. Students are exploring ways we can experience love and show love to others.

Mathematics: In Maths, we have been revisiting the place value skills we learned throughout the year. Students have been exploring how numbers work, breaking them apart into hundreds, tens and ones, and using their knowledge to solve problems with confidence. It has been a great way to strengthen their understanding and see how much they’ve grown since the beginning of the year. We are proud of the progress they have made and how they are applying these skills in their everyday learning.

English: In Literacy, we have been exploring non-fiction texts all about jellyfish. Students have been reading to learn interesting facts, asking questions, and gathering information to use in their own writing. They have begun creating their own jellyfish reports, using headings, facts and labelled diagrams to organise their ideas. To bring our learning to life, we also followed a procedure text to make our very own jellyfish models, which the students loved! It has been a wonderful way to combine reading, writing and hands-on learning.

Auslan: In Auslan, students have been spending time reflecting on all the units we have explored throughout the year. They have been revisiting key signs, practising conversations, and reviewing their learning across topics such as greetings, family, animals, colours and everyday phrases. This self-reflection has helped students recognise how much they have learned and how confident they have become in using Auslan to communicate. It has been a wonderful way to celebrate their progress and consolidate their skills before the year comes to an end. Please keep practising in the holidays.

Social & Emotional Learning: Mrs Bhagat from Grade Three will be visiting us this week in Social and Emotional Learning. She will be talking to us about Grade Three and what to expect.

Integrated Studies: In Integrated Studies, we are revisiting our unit on healthy bodies. Students have been discussing the importance of staying active, eating well, and looking after their overall wellbeing. To put our learning into action, we will be having some fun trying a variety of different physical activities designed to keep us fit and energised. It’s a great way for students to make connections between what they’ve learned and the healthy choices they can make every day.
