School Wide Positive Behaviour Support in Full Swing!

Dear Berwick Chase Community,

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS — and yes, we do love an acronym!) has been in full swing throughout the entire term, and what an impact it’s already having across our school community. As I shared earlier in the year, SWPBS focuses on two key areas: firstly, supporting, teaching and rewarding students who consistently demonstrate the positive behaviours that help shape a respectful, inclusive and thriving school culture. Secondly, it aims to build staff capacity to explicitly teach the social and behavioural skills our students need to be successful in the classroom and beyond.

One of the most powerful parts of this approach is the intentional shift toward recognising the students who are so often quietly doing the right thing — following instructions, showing kindness, allowing others to learn, and demonstrating our school values in their everyday actions. These students have embraced the recognition with pride, and it has been wonderful to see them acknowledged in such a meaningful and consistent way.

Our teachers have truly stepped up in noticing and rewarding positive behaviour, and the numbers tell the story: a remarkable 18,450 tokens have been allocated to students just this term. This is an extraordinary reflection of the calm, positive and proactive learning environments being created right across our school.

Already this term we’ve enjoyed one whole-school reward day — a celebration of the collective effort of our students — and we are well on our way to earning our second. The buzz around the school is unmistakable, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way our students and staff have embraced SWPBS.

Thank you to our entire school community for supporting this important work. Together, we really are making a difference!

Warm Regards,

Christ Short
