April Ardvark

Over Semester 2 the Year 7s have been working together to rehearse the play April Aardvark by Nathaniel Moncrieff.
The play tells the story of Ez and his gang of bullies, who have created a fake social media account to inflict misery on their fellow students. The account’s name is “April Aardvark”. The gang is satisfied with the results, until the day a student shows up to class claiming to be April Aardvark. The fake April has come to life and she is a mean, obscene insult machine.
The play shows the negative impacts of cyberbullying, especially when the bully is unknown.
On Tuesday 25th November, we finally performed our play to the Grade 5/6 students from Beaufort Primary School. Some of us were part of the cast of actors, while others worked as part of the crew in front of house, lighting, sound, set design and directing.
Putting on the play meant that we had to work closely together as a team and support each other as we stepped out of our comfort zones. During rehearsals and the performance, we used a range of Habits of Mind learning behaviours, including finding humour, persisting, thinking interdependently and taking responsible risks.
It was great fun putting on the play and we are proud of our performance. We would like to thank the following staff for supporting us: Mr Lindorff, Adrian, Bess, Mrs Jenkins, Ms Muirhead, Danielle and Mrs Thomson.
