Level 1: Connect

Suzanne Condran (1A), Kylie Clarke (1A Fridays), Robyn Sutton-Hall (1B) and Leon Tremain (1C)

Hello Level 1 Families,

Well, here we meet again. As we zoom into Week 9 next week, it’s hard to believe how quickly the term is flying by. Only three weeks to go...

We have now wrapped up all of our assessments. It's been so rewarding to see the growth that most students have made over the year. Quite remarkable really!

To showcase their learning about all things Mesopotamia, students have been working on their own individual projects- everything from posters, dioramas, models and booklets. They are all so proud of their work. We would love for you (other family members and friends) to pop on up to the Level 1 classrooms next Tuesday afternoon from 3-3.30 pm so our students can present their projects to you. They are all very excited at the prospect!

Have another great couple of weeks at SEPS!

Term 4 Reminders:

Please ensure that you have given permission/paid on Compass for our Kaboom Sports activity that will be taking place on Tuesday, 16th December. We look forward to all Level 1 students participating in this fun event to celebrate the end of a successful year!

Level 1 Inquiry Project Showcase on Tuesday 2nd December from 3.00 till 3.30pm in the JLC.

New homework will be given out next Monday and will be due back at school on Friday, 12th December. This will be the last round of homework for the year!

Our classroom doors open at 8:50am everyday. This is to allow for students to enter the classroom, put their drink bottle and diary away, and then complete a 'soft start' at their desk.

We kindly remind parents to say goodbye to their children at the classroom door.

1B and 1C change their take home readers every FRIDAY and 1A will change theirs over each WEDNESDAY. Please remember to pack take home books on your allocated day.

Hats should now be worn until the end of the year.

All library books need to be returned ASAP. There won't be any more borrowing this year thank you.

Literacy:

Heart words: This coming fortnight we will be focusing on words such as  picture, different and answer and writing these words into sentences.

This week we focussed on the words below:

Writing

Over the next two weeks, our Grade 1 students will be diving into the exciting world of letter writing. We’ll explore the main parts of a letter—greetings, the message (body), closing, and signature—and practise how to organise our ideas in clear, friendly sentences. Students will also learn how to use appropriate punctuation and add personal touches to make their letters meaningful.

As part of this unit, students will write two special letters: one to a family member and another to Santa. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to express their thoughts, feelings, and creativity while also building confidence in their writing skills.

We’re looking forward to seeing their personalities shine through in their letters and celebrating their growth as young writers!

Maths:

This week in Maths, we have been learning to tell the time on an analogue clock, focusing on half past, quarter past and quarter to. While students have found this a little tricky, they have shown great persistence and a positive attitude towards their learning. Over the coming weeks, we will continue to use retrieval practice to help consolidate our understanding of time. Looking ahead, our next focus will be on place value — exploring numbers up to the thousands.

Inquiry:

In Inquiry, we have just completed our unit on Mesopotamia, finishing with a look at the fascinating gods, goddesses and the beautiful temples they were worshipped in. Students wrote an impressive piece showcasing everything they have learnt about this ancient civilisation — including farming, laws, cuneiform (the first form of writing), and how Mesopotamia became known as the first civilisation. Over the coming weeks, students will have the opportunity to create something to show their learning about Mesopotamia during class time and we will be ready to showcase these projects next Tuesday!
