Literacy
In Literacy, students are continuing to consolidate their heart-word knowledge and review the Magic ‘e’ spelling pattern. This term, they are also learning about blends—two letters that are heard clearly together, such as bl or fl. Developing this distinction is helping students become more accurate writers, particularly with words like tree, where tr is often confused with ch. Students are also focusing on using capital letters and full stops correctly in their writing. In addition, they are learning to identify the difference between questions and statements during dictation sessions, further strengthening their punctuation skills and sentence awareness. We will be learning 'ar' as in car and reviewing the floss rule as the term progresses.

Heart words
Students are currently learning the new heart words ‘out’ and ‘as’, with ‘want’ and ‘with’ becoming a focus in the coming weeks.

Writing
In Writing, students have been exploring character traits, focusing on both the inside (feelings, personality) and outside (appearance) qualities that help bring a character to life. Using 'Pig the Pug' as our model text, students have been analysing how these traits shape a story and make characters memorable. In the coming weeks, students will be introduced to alliteration and will use this new skill as they begin creating their very own imaginative characters.

Our mathematicians have been working hard on completing a variety of assessments. These assessments provide valuable insights for teachers, helping us understand where each child is at in their learning journey.
Alongside this, we have continued with daily reviews and retrieval practice. These strategies are designed to strengthen understanding and reinforce previously learned concepts, ensuring students feel confident before moving on to new knowledge. This regular revision helps build strong foundations and supports long term learning success.
Students have been putting their maths knowledge to the test in a fun and practical way through games. By playing a variety of maths based games, students have been able to apply skills such as counting, number recognition, addition, and problem-solving in an engaging and interactive environment.
Games are a fantastic way to reinforce learning because they encourage collaboration, strategic thinking, and persistence, all while making maths enjoyable. It’s wonderful to see students confidently using what they’ve learned in class and transferring that knowledge into real life situations during play.
We are proud of the effort and enthusiasm our students have shown and look forward to consolidating everything that we have learnt thus far.
