Level 6: Connect

6A Katie Hallowel| 6B Richelle Fraser/ Mr Restaino | 6C Michael Day

We are desperately seeking parent helpers for our excursion to Gumbuya Wolrd on Friday 5th December.

Please let your child's teacher know if you have a valid Working with Children Check and can accompany us on the day.

A LONG WALK TO WATER

Our Grade 6 students have been analysing A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, a powerful dual-narrative novel that follows Nya, a girl who walks daily to collect water for her family, and Salva, a boy displaced by the civil war in Sudan. Through their stories, students have explored themes of resilience, hope, global inequality, and the importance of access to clean water. This text has supported rich discussions about empathy, social justice, and global citizenship, while also strengthening students’ comprehension, critical thinking, and reflective writing skills.

SCRAPBOOKING

This week students commenced their Primary Years' Scrapbooks. They are consolidating the work they have done on writing memoirs by a piece about each year of Primary School. If your child is yet to provide a book and photos, could you please send them into school next week. If you are unable to have photos printed, you may email digital copies to your child's teacher, and we will print them at school. These books are a lovely keepsake.

We are extremely fortunate to have access to two scrapbooks from alumni. If you would like to take a look, please see one of the teachers at pick up time.

😂 Why did the book join the police? Because it wanted to go undercover!

HEALTH INQUIRY

Students have now completed their podcasts on Empathy in Action. The podcasts are 3-5 minutes long and include definitions of Respect and Empathy. This piece of work will be used as an assessment piece. We look forward to sharing these podcasts with you.

📚 Why did the pencil ask so many questions? Because it wanted to get straight to the point!

'RAISE YOUR VOICE' INQUIRY

Students are now exploring Citizenship in Action through a legacy project that will determine how a portion of the Market Day profits will be allocated. They will band together to campaign for their chosen cause, and a vote will determine where proceeds will go. Standby for further details.

🏫 Why did the Grade 6s look both ways before entering high school? Because it was a big step in the right direction!
