5/6 Classrooms

As we move into the final stretch of the year, the energy across the 5/6 community is buzzing. This week, students threw themselves into swimming sessions with enthusiasm and determination, while our Year 5s stepped up for the 2026 student leadership interviews with maturity and courage. Meanwhile, the Year 6s have been deep in graduation preparations, and our DELE students showed impressive focus as they completed their Spanish language exams. Others made a fantastic showing at a Lacrosse tournament, where teamwork and persistence were on full display. Thank you, Sarah, Roger, Poppy and Raul for organising and facilitating this. And finally—perhaps most importantly—we farewelled Flor, whose warmth, patience and unwavering dedication and curiosity have shaped our community in so many ways.

Swimming

Our students have had a fantastic week at Coburg Leisure Centre participating in our annual swimming program. We are so proud of all the students for getting in the pool, giving every activity a go, and, most importantly, demonstrating our school values through their keen participation and respectful attitudes.

Throughout the week, students built confidence in the water and challenged themselves with new techniques. It was wonderful to see them encouraging one another and celebrating each other's progress. A big thank you to Raul who organised the program, and to families for ensuring students were prepared each day!

English Literacy

Students finished our class novel Rivet Boy and began applying the comprehension strategies we have practised to their own self-selected texts. They also completed both reading and writing assessments to show their growth across the semester. Students have finalised their narratives, and we were particularly impressed by their thoughtful use of literary devices and sentence variation—clear evidence that they are applying the skills we have been building. We have now begun exploring new literary devices that can be applied at a structural level, such as symbolism and circular plot. Students will be writing short stories to apply these techniques in context.

Spanish Literacy

Students have begun drafting their narrative pieces and are showing growing confidence in their Spanish writing. Throughout this process, they have been learning to use a range of new verbs, adjectives and conjugations to bring their ideas to life. We have also placed a strong focus on expanding vocabulary, supporting students to choose words that add depth and detail to their stories.

Mathematics

Students in Years 5 and 6 have been exploring geometry through hands-on tasks. They worked with Cartesian planes to plot points and move shapes using translations, rotations, and reflections. They also worked with tessellations, experimenting with repeating patterns. It’s been great to see their creativity and confidence grow as they apply maths in visual and engaging ways.
