Kitchen Garden

What a wonderful year it has been in our Kitchen Garden program! Students have worked hard nurturing our garden beds, caring for our Chatham chickens, learning how food grows, and discovering the joy of cooking with fresh, home-grown produce. From planting seedlings to harvesting leafy greens, herbs, and seasonal fruits, our young gardeners have shown curiosity, teamwork, and a growing confidence in the garden and kitchen.
Our Year 3/4 students finished the year on a delicious high with their final cooking session. Using rhubarb harvested from our own garden, they created a warm, fragrant rhubarb and apple crumble, paired perfectly with homemade ice cream. Thank you to Lauren, one of our Chatham families, who shared their family crumble recipe with us to try.
The students together with our, teachers and parent/carer helpers: Voula, Nanna Sharon, Nanna Bernice, Jo, Renee, Anna, Romello, Lauren, Adele, Nonna Jan and our work experience students, Sara and Amelia, all helped with measuring, mixing, cleaning up, giving small tips of advice and adding that special ingredient of partnership that our sessions provide.
This final cook-up was a celebration of the skills our students have developed throughout the year, responsibility, creativity, healthy eating, and a love for real food.
We are incredibly proud of the achievements across all year levels this year and grateful for the enthusiasm our Kitchen Garden Program brings to every session.
Here’s to another year of growing, cooking, and learning together!
Happy holidays and happy cooking over the summer break.
