Gardening Club News

Semester 1 Gardening club has been all about maintenance and taking care of our plants outside and in. The Sensory Garden has been growing nicely with many of the colours and textures coming through. The local Bees have been spotted in full flight, spreading their pollen through the school.

The community bird bathers took any opportunity to plunge into the bird bath soaking up in the new fountain. It was fun watching the entertainment from the year 7 building as many different bird species frequent the garden.

Our sensory garden has been growing new plants and flowers, showing their fruits and beautiful colours. Our inside team has been busy creating and painting to add more HOUSE colour into our garden areas.

We have harvested lettuce, lemons, potatoes and capsicums some of which were used in our food tech program and added into hamburgers.

One of the most successful parts of term 2 was the harvesting of our pumpkins, which at 1 stage seemed to be growing everywhere. After the big pumpkin plant was pulled back and the pumpkins revealed, we had a total of 17 pumpkins. As a team we sliced, wrapped and sent pumpkins off to feed many teachers and students' families.

Thanks to Villa wood we had two new self-watering vegetable gardens donated to our outdoor garden space along with an array of vegetables which should be ready to harvest in spring. The team have been busy caring for our new plants.

It has been busy but so much fun as always.

Happy holidays and keep warm
