Religious Dimension

End of Term 1 in Religious Education

We are deeply grateful to the St. John's community for the unwavering dedication and hard work that has gone into strengthening and nurturing our Catholic identity. Through your collective efforts, we have not only maintained, but also enriched the values that bind us together in faith. Each contribution, whether large or small, has played a vital role in helping us grow spiritually and as a community. Thank you for your commitment to fostering a vibrant Catholic environment, where love, compassion and service thrive. Your efforts have made a lasting impact, and we are truly blessed to have such a devoted and passionate community working together in God’s name. Here are some highlights from the end of term.

Fire Carriers

On Tuesday, we initiated our new FIRE Carrier students in a lovely ceremony where our current FIRE Carriers pass on the warmth of the flame to welcome them in to their new role. Being a FIRE carrier is a very important role in building reconciliation, appreciation and understanding with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our country.

Eucharist Commitment Masses

It was a beautiful moment to witness the students take an important step in their spiritual journey, supported by their families and the larger parish community. We are so proud of each of them as they continue to grow in their relationship with Christ, and we look forward to celebrating this special sacrament together in Term 2. Your commitment is a true testament to your faith, and we are grateful for the example you set for others.

Stations of the Cross

On Monday, our Year 5/6 students acted out the fourteen  stations of the cross in our school with an Aboriginal perspective. Each station was like a freeze frame, and the students reflected and prayed so that they were reminded of how each part of Jesus' journey could represent their own personal journeys. Our students were able to see how relevant Jesus' sacrifice was for them, even though we are 2000 years have passed.

Year 5/6Pilgrimage in Mitcham - The year of Hope

In the Year of Jubilee and Hope, a pilgrimage is a spiritual journey, encouraged by Pope Francis, to a holy site or to a place of spiritual significance, to experience God's mercy and renew hope.   Our Year 5/6 students have been learning about the importance of pilgrimage for our spiritual identity and Catholic identity. They began their journey making connections with scripture and places in Mitcham. Here are posters of the places they visited.

Project Compassion - LENT

We give thanks to everyone for the overwhelming response to sponsoring our students during LENT for our lapathon and coin trail. The money raised will be used to support other families in need via Caritas. We raised $2155 in total which is so impressive and will be helpful for our vulnerable people in our world.

Have a wonderful break with your families and we look forward to seeing you all when we return in Term 2.
