'A Welcoming Community Leading the Future of Learning with Faith and Love'
This has been another fantastic Term of great learning and memorable experiences for our students. We endeavour to engage our parent community through a vast array of activities and events at St John's to walk alongside them as partners in their child's education.
This week has been no exception with some memorable experiences for all of our students. The week began with a very special reenactment of the Stations of the Cross, led by our Year 5/6 students. It included an aboriginal perspective with symbols and artwork representing their culture. The students were very engaged as they followed in the footsteps of Jesus final days.
On Tuesday we initiated our new FIRE Carrier leaders in a lovely ceremony, where our current FIRE Carriers passed on the blessing and warmth of the flame, to welcome them in to their new role. We are so proud that Evie, Nate, Brody, Jasmine, Isla and Zoe have taken on this leadership role, to promote Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education at St John's.
On Wednesday our Year 5/6 students took action on their learning in RE and Inquiry, designing a pilgrimage around sacred places in Mitcham and Nunawading. this was a great way involve the students in the Jubilee Year as they all experienced being a pilgrim of Hope.
Our Year 5/6 students also particpated in the Interschool Gala Sports day yesterday. They showed great sportsmanship and teamwork with some great wins by many of the teams. Our volleyball team was unbeaten and they all returned very proud of their achievements.
Last week the Year 3/4 students also particpated in a Gala Sports day. It is a great way to introduce them to a variety of sports as they compete against other schools in the area.
And now I'm adding a huge thank-you to all of you! I have been completely overwhelmed by the celebrations that have happened today. I can't believe that all of our students kept a Disco Party and a special assembly a secret. I have been blessed with so many birthday wishes, beautiful cards and gifts. The day began with a Surprise Disco in the Coghlan Centre and culminated at the assembly which was hijacked by the staff, sharing a video of special memories at St John's, our school leaders birthday wishes and the Dancing Queen song from the Choir. I loved it. I am humbled by the beautiful words of Sam Solomons, on behalf of the School Parents and her generosity of words and kindness. St John's is such a special place and I am extremely grateful to the whole community, for making this birthday such a special one for me.
I would like to wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday. I hope that you all find time to share some family adventures, discover a new park, playground or forest. Remember to spend time in the great outdoors, breathe in the fresh air and play some games. I look forward to seeing you all back safely on Easter Tuesday, 22 April.
