Year 5/6 Team

Camp by Mia Nicholls

This term we went on a long journey to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat for three days and two nights. We did lots of fun activities such as candle dipping, mine tours, and a gold pour demonstration! We also got to see raspberry lollies being made which was fun. We went gold panning to try to find some gold specks but I had no luck! On the final night we got to watch the Aura sound and light show which was about how the Europeans immigrated and linked to our last year's text “The Night they Stormed Eureka.” It was a great camp even with the long bus ride back to school  which was over 4.5 hours, so we arrived back at school at 6:00pm! But in the bus we listened to music all the way back. I loved every bit of the camp, it was an amazing experience!

Senior Excursion by Nevaeh Baiocco

The week after camp the senior students went on an excursion to the Holocaust and Immigration Museums. First we went to the Holocaust  Museum. I found that really interesting . We had learnt about seven different children who survived World War II and the Holocaust, then moved to Australia to live. After that we went to the Immigration Museum. I found that fun. We wrote about families from other countries and learnt about Aboriginal culture, as well as cultures from all over the world. It was a really fun experience.

Lightning Premiership and Summer Sports by Kaden Farrall and Remy McCallum

This term we have taken part in Summer Sports and Lightning Premiership, competing in  four sports. The four sports we played were Tennis, Cricket, Volleyball and Basketball. The boys Volleyball team and the girls Cricket team both came first and are going to division. The boys Volleyball team won all of their games as did the girls Cricket team. The boys Cricket and girls Basketball did a great job coming second. Every team showed our school values and had fun. Everyone is looking forward to playing our winter sports in Term 2.

Learning in the classroom by Grace Kannegiesser

We have been very busy in the classroom between literacy and maths. In English we have been studying the novel Crow Country by Kate Constable. The book is about a girl’s move to a rural town, becoming entangled in the past and her family connections, as with the connection to the local Aboriginal heritage. In maths, we have been exploring multiplication strategies, angles and statistics. It has been a very busy term and we have learnt lots of new and exciting things!
