WARATAH BEACH CAMP!  Week 3.  This is a great camp.  I'll include a list of items that are required for camp below that has come straight from the camp itself!

➢ A waterproof raincoat with a hood, even during summer, as rain can fall any time of the year.

A single fitted sheet and pillow to maintain the highest standard of hygiene for our campers. Please do not forget that all campers must wear the following items of clothing when outside on camp.

These essential items are required to protect campers from the risk of sunburn, scratches, bites and stings:

➢ Long pants (light cotton for warmer months).

➢ Long sleeved shirt (sun-smart for warmer months).

➢ A warm beanie (terms 2-3) or sun-smart (bucket or legionnaires style) hat (terms 1-4). ➢ SPF 30+ sun screen.

➢ Enclosed shoes suitable for adventure activities, such as sneakers or runners.

➢ Drink Bottle.

Can't wait for Monday!

Literacy

We are continuing our study on Ancient Greece and Rome.  We looked at the different forms of government that the acient Greece used and what were the benefits and detractors of each of them.  This week we are studying Athens and Sparta and the similarities and differences between them.

We are practicing Information Reports with our writing.  We will be able to competently write Reports on an animal, a place and an object at the end of the unit.

Maths

We are continuing our study of decimals and how to effectively use and understand them. They are everywhere and it's improtant that our students know how to add, subtract, divide and multiply them.  While they are initially difficult for studetns of this age to understand, the more familiar that they become with them sees them appreciate just how prevalent they are in our daily lives.

We are studying Time in the applied side of maths.  While the main focus is on elapsed time and how long certain things take, we are also having to do a crash course on reading the time.  We have found that a large number of our students find it difficult to read an analogue clock face.  While we mostly see digital time everywhere from on our phones, computers etc. there are still many times during the day where we see clock faces.

Inquiry

We had a very interesting start to our topic of "Museums in Motion" where we studied how important it is to question articls that are written and to ask ourselves from what perspective they have been written from.  Our initial focus was whether Ned Kelly was a Hero or a Villian and after viewing and reading pieces from different perspectives, we asked the students to make up their own minds as to what sort of character Ned Kelly actually was.  This week will see us continue to study how improtant it is not to just take information at face value and to question it and look for other sources that might provide alternate views.

Wellbeing

It's been amazing to see the positive impact that our Berry Street Educational Model has been having on the students.  I find that they are more focused, less stressed and have a much higher regard for the value of their learning and the integral part that they play in this themselves.  We start everyday with a Morning Circle, which is a fantastic routine that we are in.  It provides the students with a calm, fun, non-threatening environment from the minute they walk in the door.  We greet each other, outline the day, focus on our values that we deem to be important, enjoy each other's announcements and have a fun activity that sets us up for a positive day of learning.
