What's happening in our classroom?

Literacy

Over the next two weeks of Reading, we are delving into the historical world of The Age of Exploration. Students will be reading about the Spice Islands, motives and means for exploration, Portuguese explorers, and Christopher Columbus. They will engage in choral responses and participate in discussions, sharing their opinions and being supported to use evidence from the texts in their responses.

In Spelling Mastery, students will continue exploring morphemes and word parts, while learning spelling rules that they can apply in their own writing.

Description! Description! Description! This term, we are focusing on painting vivid pictures in the reader’s mind. Students will be guided in using their senses to enhance their writing and add detail through adverbs, verbs, nouns, adjectives, and similes. They will use visual prompts to create descriptive paragraphs.

Numeracy

It's Fraction Time! Over the next two weeks, students will review and consolidate their understanding of equivalent fractions using a fraction wall. They will then receive explicit instruction on the steps and procedures for accurately comparing and ordering fractions and will further develop their knowledge of using multiplication to convert between proper and improper fractions.

Inquiry

Earth and the Solar System! They will learn about the energy that the earth gets from the sun. Students will research inner planets, outer planets, dwarf planets, moons, comets and asteroids. Students will end off the term by creating a scale Systemed solar system

Well-being

Wellbeing is grounded in personal and cultural strengths. By the end of this term, students will be able to describe a range of personal and cultural qualities and strengths, reflect on how they draw upon these strengths in different situations, and assess when it may be helpful to use specific strengths to navigate challenges

Thanks for reading and until next time Krystal and Jenny
