What's happening in our classroom?

Literacy

Over the next two weeks students will continue their novel study. Everyone has shown enthusiasm so far in reading our story, Leo and Ralph. This book will continue to guide much of our literacy learning in Term 2 including, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and narrative writing.

Numeracy

Over the next two weeks students will be working on multiplication and division. This unit will include a focus on multiplication and division facts for 3, 4, 6 and 8 as well as identifying and continuing number sequences for multiples of 3, 4, 6 and 8.  Students will also be learning efficient strategies for multiplying three and four digit numbers by 1 digit.

Students will also have a focus on 2D shapes to begin next term. We will be exploring the similarities and differences between 2D shapes and 3D objects as well as recognising the 2D shapes that are the faces for 3D objects such as pyramids and prisms.

This term students will be starting a new Inquiry unit titled 'Our Island Home'.

This unit will cover many areas including;

  • Why heat is important for life on Earth

  • Climate zones and natural vegetation in different countries
