REMINDERS:

- Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.

- Library days: 2A - Tuesday, 2B - Wednesday, 2C - Wednesday. Please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home. (The specialist timetable for each class can be seen below.)

- We are noticing a number of students are requiring ongoing support to tie their shoelaces and this is becoming a big distraction in the classroom. Here is a handy video they can watch to practise - EASIEST shoe tying trick ever

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

In Phonics we will be looking at some morphology including when we drop the 'e' when adding a suffix, the digraphs mb and wr and synonyms and antonyms. We will also be reviewing the long 'a' sound including ai as in snail trail, ay as in play all day, a-e as in chase to the gate, eigh and ey, as well as looking at oi/oy.

In Reading we have started out unit on Ancient Greece. Students will be learning about the answers to the following 'Big Questions.'

  • Why is Athens considered the place where democracy began?
  • What was life like in Ancient Athens?
  • What was life like in Ancient Sparta?
  • What happened at the Battles of Marathon and Thermopylae?
  • Which god and which goddess do you think are the most interesting? Why?
  • What were the original Olympic Games?
  • Who were three of the greatest thinkers of ancient Greece?
  • Why was Alexander known as Alexander the Great?

In Writing, we will continue our sentence level focus, ensuring students include adjectives to describe their nouns and conjunctions to expand their sentences. We will be looking at settings and ways we can 'paint a picture' in the readers mind using interesting words.

Numeracy

  • We are learning to add and subtract one digit and two-digit words using MAB and number lines. Students will build upon their knowledge of number bonds to ten to support this learning.
  • Students will also be learning to measure the length of objects using uniform informal units of measurements

Wellbeing

  • Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships - stress and positive coping strategies.
  • Ready to Learn plans are complete and students are building their capacity to access these when feeling like they are not ready to learn.

Inquiry

Our Term 2 unit, Stimulating Science has begun!! Students have explored how things change and enjoyed creating playdough volcanoes where they explored the chemical reaction that occurs when bicarb soda and vinegar are combined. In the coming weeks we will be sending out information about our Grade 2 Science Day so keep your eyes peeled!

A Celebration of Learning

Students enjoyed learning about Anzac Day and reading the book, Anzac Ted. This story follows the journey of a teddy going to war. Students then worked as a class to develop a letter from Anzac Ted's perspective and enjoyed drawing their own teddies. Check them out below!
