In addition to these foundational literacy skills, students are also being encouraged to speak in complete sentences. Maths
In Mathematics, students are learning to partition numbers up to 10 using part-part-whole relationships. Through hands-on activities with concrete materials, they explore the different ways a number can be broken into parts. For example, when working with a group of 5 counters, students might separate them into 3 and 2, and articulate their understanding by saying, “5 is 3 and 2 more; it’s 3 and 2.” They are encouraged to explore multiple combinations, such as 1 and 4 or 2 and 3, and to represent their findings through drawings and verbal explanations.
Next in Maths we will be focusing on counting and Place Value.
Inquiry
This term, our Inquiry Unit is titled "Great and Small." Students will explore the unique features of various animals and how these adaptations support their survival within specific environments. The unit will include a focus on Australian wildlife, encouraging students to consider practical ways they can contribute to conserving water and protecting native habitats. As a creative extension, students will use their imaginations to design their own animals by combining features from different species, applying their understanding of adaptation in a fun and engaging way.
Wellbeing
This term, we will be teaching students to reflect on their emotional responses and discuss ways in which they can take responsibility for their actions. We will be describing ways to express emotions to show awareness of the feelings and needs of others. Students will be practising techniques to deal with feelings of fear and anger.
