Student Centred Learning

In 2024 we introduced a pedagogy model which guides the teaching and learning practices at Suzanne Cory High School. The model is a result of a year-long investigation by teachers and draws from research on high ability learners. The model reflects our belief that learning should be student centred, challenging, and deep. There are five key elements to our Pedagogy Model.

  • The core of the model is the partnership between teachers and students, which we know is key to successful outcomes.
  • The model is driven by feedback, metacognition, data and goal setting which encourages our students to be aware and instrumental in their own learning.
  • There are four learning phases which teachers move students through: Accessing prior learning, active learning, applying learning and acknowledging learning.  These phases provide opportunities for students to actively participate in learning new content and skills as well as supporting them to use and extend their knowledge. We also know how important it is to recognise the achievements and growth made by all of our students as they learn.
  • The circle around the outside of the model represents the elements of a positive learning environment which are essential to ensure all students can feel safe to take academic risks, ask for support and achieve their best.

All students at SCHS have been introduced to our pedagogy model, and throughout the year we aim to increase their understanding of how this approach to teaching and learning can benefit their academic and well being  journeys.
