School Council Elections and Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 25 March. The Annual Report which provides commentary on the school's progress in 2024 was presented at the meeting. The report was then ratified by School Council. Once it has been endorsed by the Department of Education, a copy will be shared with the wider community.

The first School Council meeting was conducted and as part of that process a new School Council President and Vice President were elected.

Congratulations to Emma Thomason (Hannah and Patrick's mother) on being elected as the new President and Charles Li (Scarlett's father) on being elected as Vice President. I am confident both will do a wonderful job representing the school.

I would like to acknowledge the fantastic work of Carly Georgakopoulos in her role as School Council President the last four years. Carly has been a driving force on School Council and has been a key member of the Fundraising Committee and their efforts over the last 5 years. She capably represented the school during the School Review in 2024 and was a driving force engaging with Whittlesea Council and Bronwyn Halfpenny to have the signs replaced and improved in Cleveland Street to assist with congestion and improve safety for the students who use this entry and exit point. Carly is remaining on School Council for an another year to ensure a smooth handover to the new school councillors.

Thanks also to Crystal Irineos (Ivie and Theo's mother) who served as Vice President in 2024 and for supporting the JSC with their Second Hand Uniform stall. Crystal is remaining on School Council but has stepped down form being Vice President.

Thank you to the following outgoing School Council members Gojko Mitrovic (Mila's father) and Ajshe Rushiti (Arlind and Amir's mother) for their work on School Council in 2024.

Special thanks to Tina Robinson (Zoe's mother) who has stepped down from School Council this year due to study/work commitments after being on School Council for several years. Tina also did a stint as Vice President and was a member of the Finance Committee for several years as well.

Thanks to Julie Gatt and Shona McCulloch for completing their terms on School Council.

It is mandatory for schools to have a School Council to operate and we are always very appreciative of parents and staff who willingly give their time out of hours to ensure we have a viable and functioning School Council.

End of Term

It is hard to believe we have only 1.5 days to go and then it will be the end of term 1. The ten weeks have certainly flown by. A lot has been achieved in those ten weeks including:

  • the Preps having a successful start to school
  • the implementation of the new phonics program across the school
  • implementing the new Numeracy Curriculum
  • 5-6s completing the first half of the summer interschool sports roster
  • grade 4-6s competing in the District Athletics Carnival
  • the Choir performing at assembly
  • student leaders running wonderful lessons in the classroom for Harmony Day (Cyber Action) and a Minibeast Audit (Gardening)
  • fundraising by the JSC with icy pole sales and the Easter Raffle
  • a new School Council elected and the AGM completed
  • Parent/Teacher Interviews for grades P-6
  • 5-6 Excursion to the Flower and Garden Show
  • Peaceful Kids, Mindful Mondays, Thrilling Thursdays and Wednesday Wellbeing Clubs!

Whew!! That list is by no means exhaustive as plenty of other tasks/activities/events have been completed too. It is more of a snapshot! No wonder we are all tired an need a holiday!!

We hope everyone has a wonderful break away from the day to day school routine and enjoy a few slower mornings when you can take your time getting out of bed, eating breakfast and hanging out in your pjs a little longer. Mmmm sounds delightful!!!

For those in our community who celebrate Easter, we hope you have a wonderful time celebrating with your families.
