F/1 Acknowledgement of Country

This week in Foundation/1, we have been busy creating our very own class Acknowledgement of Country. We have spent time exploring and learning about the Wurundjeri people, the Traditional Owners of the land on which Newham Primary sits and discovering many things we appreciate about our local area. Students enthusiastically discussed familiar landmarks, as well as the plants, animals, and people who make our community special.

We were very fortunate to have Marluka from class 2/3/4 join us to share insights into his cultural heritage and explain what an Acknowledgement of Country means to him. The Foundation/1 students were highly engaged, and they thoroughly enjoyed the stories, music, and special items Marluka shared with us. They asked thoughtful and inquisitive questions and showed wonderful reflection on their new knowledge.

Our exciting week concluded with students collaboratively composing our very own class Acknowledgement of Country, which we will proudly use to start each week in our classroom.

Celebrating our Different Cultures in F/1

This week in F/1 we learned about Greek Easter from Tilley, Rhu's mum, who came to visit us at school. We dyed some eggs red and used them to play an egg cracking game.

Zayd shared with us information about his cultural celebration of Ramadan and Eid. He brought along some of the traditional clothing that he wore to his family celebration. We talked about the symbols used for celebrations and make some paper lanterns.
