This term the Grade 5 and 6 students have been drawing flowers from their imagination, inspired by French artist Sandrine Pelissier. First high flow acrylics and liquid water colour were dropped onto a canvas that had been sprayed with water. This allows the colour to flow and change shape. Alcoholic inks were also dripped around the canvas and appeared to be alive as they spread.
Next the students examined these drops of colour, and much like searching for a shape in the clouds, they discovered where the flowers were, some were bunched together and others had fallen from the vase. They drew a vase or container to hold the flowers and outlined them in white pencil. Once the flowers are clear in their mind they painted around the negative space with white paint.
A vase and table were painted in colours that contrasted the flowers, and the final step was to add patterns to the vase and table using stencils or poscas.
These are just a few of the outstanding flowers painted from their imagination:
I chose one student’s work to put in a 30cm x 30cm frame from Kmart, I hope Edith finds the perfect place on the wall for it and that lots of students buy a frame, they are all worth it!
