Pathways News

Oberon High School Careers Webpage

https://oberonhs.careertools.com.au

This year all students across Years 7-12 will visit the Oberon High School careers website to access their Career Action Plans, goal setting and other pathway activities. Students will be given their own log in details to access the secure area of the website where they can create resumes and cover letters as well as complete pathways quizzes. This is an open website so we encourage you to explore many of the different tabs that outline options for senior school, post school and beyond. We continue to add to this website and hope that students, as they become more familiar with it, will also use this regularly.

Morrisby Interviews

Over the last 2 weeks 168 Year 9 students have engaged with our Morrisby consultants to unpack the results from their online Morrisby assessments. A huge thanks to all the parents who were able to attend. There is always a great buzz around these interviews as students keenly engage with the interviewers, discussing pathway options. There will be an opportunity later in the year for students who missed their interview or have not yet completed their assessment.

Year 10 Work Experience

Many Year 10s are getting organised to head out on Work Experience next term. If your child is interested in work experience, have them collect a form from the Careers room in the library. We encourage students to use their family and friends network as a starting point to secure a place but we are happy to assist with suggestions and cold calling.

White Card Training

After a fully subscribed White Card training 2 weeks ago, we are pleased to announce another White Card training day on Friday 20th June at Oberon High School. This 6 hour training session provides students with the entry level qualification to enter construction sites for work experience, structured workplace learning arrangements and full time employment. This course is available for students in Years 10, 11 and 12. The cost is $90. If your child is interested, please contact Lesa Allison in the office.

Skilling The Bay Programs for Year 10s

As well as ‘traditional’ work experience Year 10 students have the opportunity to participate in some of Skilling The Bay World of Work programs. Designed to guide students in making informed pathway decisions, the WOW programs aim to ignite a passion for career exploration. They provide a work-experience like environment where students can engage with like-minded peers across Geelong and expand their networks.

The 2025 WOW Programs will be delivered over three days, over three weeks, on different days of the week. The days will begin at 9am and conclude at 3pm. The first day will be spent at the Geelong Tech School for hands-on activities and provide a networking opportunity. On the other two days, students will visit up to three workplaces. These 3 day programs take students behind the scenes of many of Geelong’s big and small industries, providing them with an insight into the field of work and pathway options. Below are some of the programs available. Applications close very soon so please let one of the careers team (Nicola Maher, Lesa Allison, Kaye Barry) know if interested.
