PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Staff Changes

There are a number of changes to our staffing from the start of term two:

  • Mrs Angie Ryan who is one of our student wellbeing counsellors has resigned from the Department of Education and Oberon High School. We have advertised to replace Angie.
  • Ms Caitlin Barbante returns from family leave for the beginning of term two.
  • Mrs Caitlyn Parfett will be beginning family leave from week 4 of term two and will be replaced by Ms Madelyn Alexander.

Open Night

The school held our Open Night for prospective students and their parents on Thursday 27th March.  Most of the questions that I answered on the night related to the school zone and the Department of Education ‘Priority Placement Policy’.   Due to the expected high levels of student population growth in future years in Armstrong Creek the school has been instructed to manage enrolments.  In order to do this, we are following the Priority Placement Policy:

DET Priority Placement

  1. students for whom the school is the designated neighbourhood school
  2. students with a sibling at the same permanent address who are attending the school at the same time
  3. all other students in order of closeness of their home to the school.

Interim reports

Parents will be able to access interim reports on the Xuno portal at 4pm on Friday 4th April. If parents are having trouble accessing the reports, please contact the school when the new term begins.

Student/Parent/Teacher conferences

The school has scheduled Student/Parent/Teacher conferences for week two of term two. These will be held on Thursday 1st May (note this change of date), with the school day changed to run from 11.30am – 7.30pm.  Parents will be able to make booking appointments via Xuno from Friday 4th April, 4pm. There are no scheduled classes, but students are expected to attend the appointments with their parents to discuss their academic progress.

School uniform

A reminder to parents that all students are expected to wear the correct school uniform at all times.  With term two only a couple of weeks away and the weather starting to be a lot colder in the morning it is important that students have an appropriate Oberon High School top to wear to keep them warm.   There are a range of options available through our uniform supplier PSW in Geelong.  If you haven’t already done so, can you ensure that all uniform is labelled with your family name, so that this can be returned if found at school.  We have had a lot of items handed into our office, but many with no name on the clothing.

As this is the last newsletter for term one, thank you to the school community for another great terms work.  Enjoy the holiday break, stay safe and I look forward to seeing everyone back for the start of term two which begins on Tuesday 22nd April (Monday 21st is Easter Monday). There are only three school days in the first week as Friday 25th April is ANZAC day.
