English Parent Information Sessions

As advertised in last week's newsletter and via Operoo, you are warmly invited to attend a Parent Information Session about English at St Louis. Two sessions will be offered and the purpose of these sessions is to share with parents some of the changes we have made to the teaching of literacy and the reasons behind the changes. The sessions will be held in the Performing Arts Centre (the PAC) and parents are asked to enter through the office and sign in. The first session is on Monday at 8.50 for parents in Years 3-6 and the second session is on Wednesday at 2.20 for parents in Years Prep-2. Details below.

 

There will be two presentations offered as follows - 

 

Year 3 - Year 6: Monday 24 March 8.50 - 9.40am

 

The session will cover - 

  • skills for fluent and effective reading 
  • what is a structured literacy block?
  • vocabulary, fluency and comprehension
  • use of the Ochre Novel Study
  • explicit instruction in English

Prep - Year 2: Wednesday 26 March 2.20 - 3.10pm **

 

The session will cover -

  • how students learn to read and write
  • phonemic awareness and phonics
  • decodable books
  • home reading
  • Little Learners Love Literacy
  • use of rich literature

**Prep parents please note - this session will include some of the information presented at the Prep Information Night a few weeks ago. If you attended that session, please be aware there will be some repeats in this session but you are still most welcome to attend if you would like.
