Year Two

Dear Year Two Families,
We hope you had a restful break and are ready for another exciting term of learning!
Unit of Inquiry: Who we are
We have started exploring our new unit, focusing on the body systems and how they work both independently and together. Students have been recording their wonderings and conducting research to deepen their understanding of how the body functions and how its systems are connected.
Reading
Students have been diving into independent texts and using questioning to explore ideas more deeply. They’ve enjoyed making text-to-text connections and are beginning to get to know author Michael Stephen King—his stories, style and background—as we prepare to learn more about his work in the coming weeks. We have also introduced the students to the Premier's Reading Challenge. Students are challenged to read 30 books. When we read books as a whole class, students will be able to add them to their list as read.
Writing
In Writing, students have been enjoying the challenge of retelling stories—first by sharing them aloud and then turning them into written pieces. They’ve also been learning how to revise and edit their work, taking pride in making their writing even clearer and more creative.
Spelling
In Spelling, students have been learning to spot the difference between common and proper nouns, and when to use capital letters. They’ve had fun practising these skills through games and writing activities that help them become more confident spellers.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students began the term by revisiting key concepts from Term 1 through fun games and practical activities, helping to refresh their number knowledge in an engaging way. This week, we’ve started learning about Australian money—recognising coins and notes, understanding their values, and using them to solve real-life problems like shopping scenarios and giving change. Students have enjoyed connecting their maths learning to situations they experience outside the classroom.
Swimming
Swimming has begun for our Year Two cohort. Weeks 2 and 3 sees 2A, 2B, 2E, 2F, 2I receiving swimming lessons from Saltwater Swim Schools. Students are thoroughly enjoying their lessons and have been developing their independence as they get themselves changed. Weeks 4 and 5 will see 2C, 2D, 2G, 2H and 2J have their swimming lessons. Please remember to send your child to school with their swimsuit under their uniform, then in a bag they must have a change of underwear, a towel and thongs/sandals/slides/crocs.

Students are expected to bring their iPad to school every day fully charged, as well as a water bottle.
